School, City Dedicate New Flynn Park Playground
The new playground was conceived, constructed and funded through a group effort.
It takes a village to raise a child and it took a community to build a playground.Β
An official celebration to dedicate the new playground at University CityβsΒ Flynn ParkΒ was held Sunday.
The new playground, which adjoinsΒ Flynn Park Elementary School, is the result of a planning and funding effort involving the University City community from school children and parents to theΒ School District of University CityΒ andΒ City of University CityΒ staff.Β

To help offset a $230,000 grant from the St. Louis County Municipal League, the Flynn Park community raised over $39,000 in funds for the equipment. The University City Parks Foundation, Woods Family Foundation andΒ Washington University-St. LouisΒ also kicked in funding, and in-kind donations were received from Momentum Worldwide.Β Β
In April 2011, hundreds of Flynn Park neighborhood youth set up lemonade stands around the City in a βTake a Stand for Playβ event.Β
