Frida's Deli: What to Eat, When It's Open

Frida’s Deli at 622 North and South Road in University City is the place for healthy and meat-free eats. The deli is open 11a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to Monday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday to Friday.

The deli’s owner, Natasha Kwan, has been a vegetarian since childhood. She’s dabbled with vegan and raw food cuisines and has currently adopted a Pescetarianism lifestyle. (Pescetarians enjoy milk, eggs and occasionally fish.)

The deli serves eggs and dairy products, and some raw food dishes (those prepared at under 115 degrees). Frida's does not use sugar, and use organic and local products when they are available.

The shop also recycle and composts any waste, and to-go drinks are served in compostable cups with paper straws.

What you should try at Frida’s:

Hot sandwiches: try the Mushroom Reuben ($8.95), Crab Cake Burger ($8.95), or the Frida Burger ($8.95), voted best non-beef burger in St. Louis by the Riverfront Times.

Cold sandwiches: try the Raw Taco ($9.95) made with sunflower “meat”, or the Egg Salad Sandwich ($7.95) made with local, pasture raised eggs.

Smoothies: try The Glow ($5.95) made with coconut water, peaches, papaya, strawberries and agave nectar; or the meal-sized Roadrunner ($7.95) made pomegranate juice, blueberries, banana, mango, walnuts, cacao, pomegranate juice, house-made yogurt and whey protein.
