Lights, Cameras and Loop Surveillance

The new surveillance camera system for the Delmar Loop is on track to be  operational by June.

The  met Tuesday afternoon with the camera consultant, Rich Wilson told the Loop Special Business District at its March meeting. Wilson is the city's director of Public Works, Parks and Forestry.

"We are meeting with the consultant and see what it's going to take to cover the whole Loop," Wilson said.

That master plan will be pared down to the best coverage under the initial city budget.

"We'll bid for what we can do," Wilson told business owners. "The system is expandable," 

The original outlay for the system is $160,000. 

The cameras will be attached to buildings and will provide  with a view of the street and public parking lots. While the cameras had been in the works for years, business owners , which involved hundreds of unruly young people.

Wilson also asked business owners for their imput on lighting in the Loop. The current light poles will be replaced during construction work for the Loop Trolley. The city is pushing for brighter LED lights but could maintain the current lower orange colored lights if there was an interest from the business community.
