Ntozake Shange to Receive Star on Walk of Fame
The author and playwright of such works as 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf,' lived in St. Louis as a child.
Writer Ntozake Shange will be in today to receive her star on the .
Shange's star will be located at 6160 Delmar Blvd.Β in the Delmar Loop, across from the Moonrise Hotel. The presentation ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14.Β
Born Paulette Williams, writer Ntozake Shange lived inΒ St. LouisΒ from age 8 to 13 on Windemere PlaceΒ in The Ville. Her experiences inΒ St. LouisΒ infuse her work, especially the novelsΒ Betsey BrownΒ (1985) andΒ Liliane: Resurrection of the DaughterΒ (1994).Β

She won an Obie award for her stage playΒ For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf. Now a standard of the American stage, the 1976-77 Broadway hit was adapted into a major motion picture in 2010.Β Β
