Steve Nicollerat: The 'How?' and 'Why?' of coaching

Why do you coach kids? Is it because your dad did? Is it because you played up to a certain level and think you should? Is it because you want to win a faux gold trophy? Is it because you love kids and think what you have to offer will help them be successful in life?

Whatever your reason for coaching is, you need to have one. Then, you'll be able to assess whether your reason is a good one or not. St. Louis University High baseball coach Steve Nicollerat once told me to have a reason for everything I do as a coach. If there's not a reason to do it, then stop doing it.

That's good advice from a big picture standpoint. It also works for the details. Nicollerat covers the big picture and the details at the Coach It Right! Baseball Clinic. The 2014 version is Saturday, March 8 inside the Danis Field House on the campus of St. Louis University High School
