Visit St. Louis HELP at the Earth Day Festival Sunday April 24

In 2015 St. Louis HELP loaned 5,570 health equipment items for free diverted about 150 tons of equipment from solid waste landfills.

Don’t miss meeting St. Louis Health Equipment Lending Program (St. Louis HELP) volunteers at the St. Louis Earth Day Festival on Sunday, April 24th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Muny Grounds at Forest Park.

In 2015 St. Louis HELP loaned 5,570 health equipment items for free to people who need it and, in doing so, diverted about 150 tons of equipment from solid waste landfills.

β€œWe collect about 11,000 items of donated equipment annually,” says St. Louis HELP Executive director Laura Cannon Singer. See the website http://www.stlhelp.org.

β€œWe revitalize or recycle it all. Good parts of broken equipment are used for repairs. Any broken wooden crutches are recycled to a wood chipper. Nothing is wasted.”

The St. Louis Earth Day Festival on April 24th will allow people to participate in hands-on educational activities, meet area non-profits, and learn about sustainable products and services offered by local organizations. Admission is free. This year’s theme is β€œThink Global, Act STL”. More than 20 food and beverage vendors will be there along with live music and activities on three stages. St. Louis HELP conducts two home health equipment drives annually, and also accepts equipment donations by appointment all year. The next equipment drive is on Saturday, May 14.

Since 2008 St. Louis HELP has loaned more than 50,000 home health itemsβ€Šβ€”β€Šfor freeβ€Šβ€”β€Što people suffering from accidents, disabilities, and illnesses.

St. Louis HELP freely loans equipment to people who are temporarily disabled by injury, illness or surgery; those awaiting insurance company approval; those whose own equipment is being repaired; visitors to St. Louis who can’t transport their own equipment; and terminally ill persons.
