Theo Bikel, known to most as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, will open the 2014 St. Louis Jewish Book Festival. Bikel will depart from the traditional interview format, opting instead to directly address and perform for the crowd. Bikel will also discuss his book, Theo: An Autobiography. In it, the award-winning performer discusses his numerous roles on stage and screen, including 2,000+ performances as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, the original Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, and Zoltan Karpathy in My Fair Lady. His recently released film is, Theodore Bikel: In the Shoes of Sholom Aleichem.

At The Touhill Performing Arts Center – Lee Theater on the UMSL campus
Saint Louis Ballet returns to the Jewish Book Festival for its third year featuring a work by George Balanchine entitled Valse Fantaisie, with music by Glinka. Additional excerpts of works by Gen Horiuchi, artistic director of Saint Louis Ballet, will be included. A lively Q&A with the dancers and director will conclude the evening.

St. Louis Symphony Musicians with Daniel Lee and Patti Wolf
Enjoy a classical evening celebrating more than 10 years of partnership with the St. Louis Symphony. Music will include special previews of the complete Schumann Cello Concerto and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, both of which will be performed later in November and December at Powell Symphony Hall. Performers will take part in our Q&A.
