• Recovering from a lightning strike thanks to help from the Red Cross (redcross.org) — A Wentzville family is rebuilding after lightning destroyed their home in May 2025, and they credit early help from Red Cross volunteers with easing those first overwhelming days. Gift cards, practical guidance, and even stuffed animals for their teens helped them replace essentials and find comfort. Repairs are underway, and they hope to move back home this fall.
   

• 2026 10/03 (southernillinoisnow.com) — Wentzville residents are mourning the passing of 82-year-old Marvin Ray Rightnowar, whose life was marked by deep Christian faith, devotion to family, and a love of the outdoors. Though services will be held October 3 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, his ties to Wentzville and Southern Illinois communities run strong. His family invites memorial contributions in his honor instead of flowers.
