'Barat Academy Is NOT closing,' Says Dardenne Prairie School

Although the locks have been changed on its building, is not giving up, an article on Stltoday.com reported today.

The Barat Academy website was updated this morning with a bulleted list of items to reassure parents and students that—despite the expiration of the lease for their Dardenne Prairie building—plans for the upcoming school year continue.

Barat's website that there is no news on a proposal to the FDIC for a new lease and that they will continue to update parents and students by phone every Monday and Thursday.

The Suburban Journals discussed Barat's options, including an offer by Vatterott College, on July 8.

In March, for nonpayment of rent. The school owed $75,000 in rent for November and December of 2010 and January of 2011.

A prayer vigil has been planned for July 13 at 8:30 p.m. on the Barat campus. Another event, "Rally 'Round Barat" is scheduled for 2 p.m. on July 21.

Barat's website says that fall sports will begin on Aug. 8, faculty meetings will be held on Aug. 15, Hello Week will be Aug. 22 and school will start on Aug. 31.
