#LifeEquality: Most Basics of All Human Rights

The Gosnell trial is the logical conclusion of a legal system that denies it's citizens the most basic of rights.

I am unashamedly pro-life. I would be what you would call a womb to tomb pro-life.

I believe that every human being has the right to life and I do not support the governments position of the death penalty.

I believe every human being has intrinsic value and because of that value the snuffing out of life is a cosmic tragedy. And because of these values, my world view is altered; changed.

I have a difficult time not feeling empathy for anyone really. Oh my human nature kicks in when I see things like the Boston bombing, but more often than not I believe despite the wickedness that can lie hidden deep within humanity, that we are of value, that we are redeemable and worth pursuing.

So when I saw the trail starting in Philadelphia about the abortion doctor, Dr. Kermit Gosnell and all the horrors that took place there, my heart raced and I wanted to scream!

What happened in that "clinic" is nothing short of the worst horror story I've ever heard. Babies being killed after delivery, cutting spinal chords and infanticide...all done during normal business hours. It makes me want to vomit. I'm not going to get into the science of the issue...we've heard all the statics and "what if" scenarios.

And whether you believe that life happens at conception like I do, is irrelevant.

Because we can all agree that once a sperm and egg unite that there is a process that takes place that will create a human being. And that human being if given the chance, all things considered, will be born alive and then live life. And if that is the case, that every uniting of sperm and egg has the ability to create a human, then how can we not allow that to take place? How can citizens of a country who in the very beginning declared, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness". How can we then turn around and not give those same rights to those that have no voice?

Our founding fathers were hugely mistaken in many areas but this is brilliantly and simply put.

How have we come to a place where we even have to have a trial for a DOCTOR accused of killing newborns? How have we come to a place where our own personal happiness trumps the right of another's life? How have we come to a place where our nations unborn can be thrown in the trash?

It's hard to sit and listen in on our nations' gun control debate. Our President has repeatedly said when referring to the victims of the Sandy Hook masacre, "Each child deserves a vote". I believe that. We should take into account those that have suffered much due to gun violence.

But what about the millions not given a chance at life every year? Do they not deserve a vote as well? Where is there chance? And before anyone accuses me of being mysoginistic or judgmental let me briefly share with you a story.

Some time ago a young woman came to me teary eyed because she had gotten pregnant. She was a young teen girl and felt like she had nowhere to turn. I sat and talked with her and we talked through many options. Abortion being one. I told her that we would be with her every step of the way and that if she wanted me to I would be with her when she told her parents. She said that wouldn't be necessary. After this girl told her parents, I reached out to them for support and to see if they needed anything. They thanked me and said they were OK.

It was at that time that her mother told her the only option would be abort the baby. She told her young daughter that having this child would ruin her life. I then tried to talk to the parents, but to no avail. They would not take my calls or emails or messages.  The day quickly came for her appointment at a Planned Parenthood and I had asked if we could come for support. They allowed me (and two others) to do so but wouldn't let us actually come in. So we sat in the parking lot and waited. 

We sat in that clinic's parking lot for hours even after having given this young woman and her family options. We had found two different families wanting to adopt locally that would take the child, but they still said no.

After what seemed an eternity, out came the girl and her mother. We hugged her and her mother and told them we loved them and if there was anything we could do please let us know. That day a baby died and a piece of that young woman did as well.

And for what? To save her some ridicule or scorn? To prevent her from giving another couple a chance to raise a happy and healthy baby? Because it's her right? I truly believe that we have arrived at two places as a culture. The first is that the Gosnell trial is the logical conclusion of a legal system that denies all of it's citizens the right to life and the second is that we believe in our own personal rights and freedoms to the exclusion of all others.

We have come to a place of complete and absolute worship of the "Me".  When life becomes a thing so worthless that you can buy over the counter drugs at the store to terminate it, we have lost our way. If every person deserves equality (a word we are using a lot of today) then doesn't every person deserve equality? Don't those little ones deserve life equality? Should they be denied the right to live because they may be seen as an inconvinience? 

Life Equality is the most basics of all human rights. It trumps everything we do or say we believe. It exceeds all other choices in life. And it is more important than our watered down defenition of happiness.  #LifeEquality>everything
