Timberland beats Parkway West 20-6 in season opener

8/24/12. On a hot and humid Friday night at Parkway West high school, the Timberland Wolves faced off against the Parkway West Longhorns in their season opener. Last year, the Wolves finished with an overall record of 2-8 and were at the bottom of the GAC conference. Timberland's head coach since 2002, Craig Collins, resigned following the disappointing season. The wide receivers coach Ed Gilreath took over this season as the new head coach of Timberland Football. Along with 5 other new coaches being hired this season and most of last years starters coming back, the Wolves installed brand new offensive and defensive systems into their game plan. Going into this season, the Wolves were still an unproven team.

With a packed stadium at Parkway West, the Wolves defeated the Longhorns with a final score of 20-6. After a Wolves kickoff to start the game, the Timberland defense held the Longhorns to a three and out on their first drive. The wolves took the ball back and scored on a 17 yard run from Senior QB Ryan Bainbridge. The teams battled for the rest of the half, until the Longhorns scored a TD late in the 2nd quarter. Due to a missed extra point attempt, the Wolves went into halftime leading 7-6. In the second half, the Wolves shut out the Longhorn offense and did not allow any points to be scored. The wolves had three interceptions by Senior LB Austin Grubbs, Junior LB Tyler Wibbenmeyer, and Senior FS Travis Arndt. Offensively the wolves scored off a 3 yard touchdown run by Senior RB Lucas Jordan in the 3rd quarter to go up 14-6. In the 4th quarter, the wolves scored two long field goals to finish the game 20-6.

Timberland starts off their season with a 1-0 record so far and the first ever win under head coach Ed Gilreath. The Wolves take on Washington next Friday night at Scott Swofford Stadium.
