Executive Search Firm to Present $21K Proposal to Board

After two rounds of unsuccessful interviews for the City Administrator position, the Wentzville Board of Aldermen is looking at the possibility of hiring a recruitment firm.

The Mercer Group, an Atlanta-based executive search firm, will present a proposal for recruiting a new city administrator to the at the June 27 regular meeting.

The firm would charge $21,000 for the recruitment process, broken down as follows:

  • $3,850 for job analysis and a position profile
  • $2,600 for advertising and recruitment
  • $2,700 for resumΓ© review
  • $2,500 for candidate screening
  • $2,350 for background investigations
  • $2,500 for the interview process, negotiation and follow-up
  • $4,500 for an expense budget

Mercer would hold meetings with the mayor, aldermen, department heads and community members to create a position profile. They would then meet with the board to discuss the top 8-10 candidates and get the board's feedback.

After that, they would present the board with the top 3-5 candidates, facilitate interviews and assist with the selection of the new city administrator. At an optional follow-up meeting, they would help with goals and performance objectives.

The proposal suggests a 90-day schedule for the entire process.

The Mercer Group offers the city the following guarantee:

. . . if all the steps of our proposal are approved and carried out, should the selected candidate leave your employ within two years of employment, we will redo the search for the cost of our expenses only. Our other guarantees include never attempting to recruit our placement without your permission, and we will continue the search for City Administrator until you are satisfied.
