GM Wentzville Volunteers Barbecue for Elder Court Community

The annual Elder Court community barbecue in Wentzville took place on Tuesday with help from volunteer team members at GM Wentzville.

The annual Elder Court retirement community barbecue in Wentzville took place on Tuesday with help from volunteer team members at GM Wentzville Assembly and Stamping.

Dozens of barbecue pork steaks, hamburgers, and hot dogs were grilled up and served by volunteer members of UAW Local 2250 and GM Wentzville plant staff. Vegetables, fresh fruit, and salad were also provided to residents.

Residents who could not make it to the lunch hall had barbecue plates delivered to their front doors. Care bags including toiletries and other necessities were also handed out.

The third annual event has become a staple for residents within the community who look forward to having some great barbecue while mingling with GM Wentzville volunteers.

“The residents look forward to seeing us each summer,” said Tina Hays, chairperson for the UAW 2250 Community Services Committee. “It’s great to serve these folks and be a part of their day.”

Members of the Wentzville Fire and Police Departments also participated in the volunteer meal delivery efforts.

“We are glad to serve our neighbors and give back to those who may not be able to enjoy a barbecue on their own anymore,” said Nancy Laubenthal, Wentzville Assembly Plant Manager. “The barbecue is a good example of how doing the little things can make a big impact in the community.”

GM Wentzville volunteers also provide an annual Thanksgiving feast for the Elder Court community which will now be in its 28th year.
