Lake Saint Louis Parks and Recreation Offers Art Classes
Drawing and painting classes start in January and run for six weeks.

Classes are taught by award winning artist Marie Donato. A supply list is available at registration and materials need to be purchased prior to the first class. All participants must be 18 years of age or older (or serious young adults) and a minimum of 6 students is required in each class.
- Adult Drawing, Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Jan. 12 - Feb. 16 (tentative). This class is designed with every artist—or artist to be—in mind. Learn the importance of drawing and help strengthen your skills by learning the elements of line, value, proportion and composition in black and white media. Working from photos and still life, students will receive individualized instruction designed for their level of accomplishment.
- Art of Drawing the Portrait, Thursdays, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. from Jan. 12 - Feb. 16 (tentative). This class will help refine and build your portrait technique, rendering convincing hair and facial features and achieving a striking likeness in a classic realist style. From your favorite photo of a family member or favorite pet, you will create a portrait using graphite, pastel or charcoal.
- Pastel Painting, Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., from January 10 - Feb. 14 (tentative). This class will teach you how to use pastels to create beautiful impressionistic landscapes. You will learn the basics of pastels such as blended and broken color methods, scumbling, and feathering techniques of color application.
- Water Color for All Levels, Tuesdays, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 10 - Feb. 14 (tentative). This class will teach and reinforce techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, layering washes and gradation of tone. For the advanced student, you will learn compositional skills, emphasizing the elements of good design and techniques on how to compose a painting from your own photos.
The cost for the six-week sessions are $65 for residents or $82 for non-residents. Registration forms are available online and can be filled out and mailed or dropped off at city hall. Registrations are also taken by phone at 636-561-4620. Online registration will be available on Jan. 2, 2012.
