Lake Saint Louis Sales Tax Passes by 4 Vote Margin

Fewer than a thousand voters in Lake Saint Louis turned out Tuesday night to decide the fate of a new half-cent capital improvement sales tax for the city.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, 476 voters, 50.21 percent, said yes to the tax; 472 voters, 49.79 percent, said no. The St. Charles County Election Authority still considers the results unofficial.

The revenues from the tax will be dedicated to street repairs and parks improvements. 

In a letter to residents, Mayor Ralph Sidebottom said, "Current funds allow us to pave asphalt streets every 37 years and concrete streets every 54 years."

Revenues from the new tax would let the city make repairs more in line with The American Public Work’s Association guidelines that asphalt streets be repaved at least once every 15 years and concrete streets every 30 years, he said.
