Voters Approve Lake Saint Louis Annexations

The city asked for voter approval for five of 14 parcels originally identified in a Plan of Intent.

A Plan of Intent filed by the City of Lake Saint Louis in December of last year identified 14 parcels of land for future annexation. Five of those parcels were approved for annexation by voters in Tuesday's election.

"The annexation of these parcels means Lake Saint Louis can be involved with the development process for the sites as the property owners and developers build structures on the land," City Administrator Paul Markworth said. The parcels are too small to be part of a large development in the future, but, he said, "the vacant property will someday be developed and the city can insure that the development is consistent with the city's standards."

One parcel approved is home to a .Β  Bringing it into the city, Markworth said, allows the store and its customers access to police services. It will also provide some income to the city. Β

Of the original 14 parcels, three were voluntarily annexed. "One of those annexationsΒ is a good commercial site located at I-64/40 and Highway N," Markworth said, and added that the city is continuing to talk with property owners of three other parcels to voluntarily annex. Β

Two of the original 14 parcelsΒ are owned by a church. "At this time, we think it best for those parcels not to be located in the city," Markworth said.

The last parcel of the original 14 has a resident living on the property. "For now," Markworth said, "the city doesn't plan on involuntarily annexing land where a resident lives."
