Wentzville Firefighters Extricate Child from Gun Safe
The child became stuck in a safe at Lowe's.
Wentzville firefighters were dispatched Saturday evening to a report of a child locked in a safe at the store at 1889 Wentzville Parkway.
Upon arrival, the firefighters were shown to a tall gun safe with the child inside and the door locked. The crews were able to make contact with the 2-year-old boy trapped inside.
The firefighters used an electric drill to drill a hole into the top of the safe to allow an oxygen tube to be inserted. This tube supplied oxygen to the child.

While this operation was happening, store staff attempted to unlock the safe with a key and combination. This was unsuccessful and the firefighters started using pry bars and hydraulic rescue tools to open the safe.
During the extrication operation the crews continually talked to the boy and reassured him. The door was successfully pried opened and the child was released unharmed.
