• MSU-WP chancellor addresses Grizzly Lofts incident - West Plains Daily Quill (westplainsdailyquill.net) — Missouri State University-West Plains is tightening campus safety communication and guest policies after a disturbance at the Grizzly Lofts where non-students allegedly brought a gun and knife into the residence hall. Two West Plains men now face felony charges, and university leaders have apologized for delayed notification while revising incident response procedures to better protect local students.
   

• Van Alst indicted on rape, incest charges (westplainsdailyquill.net) — A West Plains resident has been indicted in Howell County Circuit Court on first-degree rape and incest charges stemming from an alleged 2022 incident, and is currently free on bond. Local prosecutors will bring the case before Presiding Judge Steven Privette at an upcoming arraignment, underscoring an ongoing serious criminal matter involving a community member.
   

• Sharon Hammond Butler, 80, Mountain Home (Kirby) (ktlo.com) — Many in West Plains will remember Sharon Hammond Butler, who was born, raised, and graduated high school here before building a life and family in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Her loved ones will gather there October 1–2 for visitation, a funeral Mass, and burial, and friends back home are invited to share memories and condolences online.
