Donation to honor beloved dog will fund 2,500-square-foot wing at new Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter (ktvq.com) β A Billings couple is honoring their late dog Hank by funding a 2,500βsquareβfoot wing, "Hank's Place," at the future Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter facility near the Yellowstone River. The new permanent home, planned for Garden Avenue, will add larger play yards, better lighting, training areas and adoption spaces. The shelter aims to raise $12 million and break ground in fall 2028 after leaving its former Monad Road site.

Federal Judge Orders Release of Montana Father and Child (1075thepeak.com) β A Billings father and his 9-year-old child must be released from a Havre Border Patrol station after a federal judge ruled their warrantless arrest and detention violated constitutional rights. The child, who has a serious medical condition, has long-scheduled appointments in Billings, and the case ties into a broader lawsuit over alleged unlawful detentions in Montana.

Billings, Laurel backpackers take130-mile wilderness trek (montanaoutdoor.com) β A lifelong Billings resident finally tackled his dream of a long Beartooth Mountains trek, teaming up with a Laurel friend for roughly 130 miles of rugged hiking. Over eight days they battled steep climbs, storms, bears, illness and endless switchbacks while averaging 16 miles a day. Their journey, supported by friends, delivered unforgettable views and has them already plotting even bigger adventures.

Laurel's Shel Osborne embraces final season with Dickinson State at end of unlikely journey (montanasports.com) β A former Laurel standout who once faced Billings Central in the 2020 state title game is now a key defensive leader at Dickinson State, entering his final college season. After a serious knee injury and a brief stint as a non-athlete at Montana State Billings, he returned to football, earned a degree, and now aims to help the Blue Hawks rebound in the rugged Frontier Conference.
