Billings Family Massacre: Eight Dead Including Four Children in Montana (time.news) β A horrific attack just outside the Billings city limits left eight members of an extended family, including four children, dead in a combined shooting and house fire on August 23. Yellowstone County authorities say the suspected gunman, a 44-year-old relative, died of a self-inflicted gunshot, and the Billings community is now mourning at a growing roadside memorial.

2. Montana Family Massacre: 12-Year-Old Called 911 (balleralert.com) β A horrific mass killing at a home just outside Billings has left eight family members dead, with investigators still probing the burned property and possible motives. Authorities say 12-year-old Charlotte called 911 during the attack, and a candlelight vigil is planned at Veterans Park in Billings to honor her and the other victims as the community grieves together.

3. Gov. Gianforte appoints Buschman to serve on Public Service Commission (nbcmontana.com) β A Billings resident, Kirk Bushman, has been temporarily appointed by Gov. Greg Gianforte to represent District 2 on the Montana Public Service Commission through July 8, 2027. Bushman, who previously served on the PSC, will again help oversee electric and natural gas rates, consumer complaints, and utility reliability affecting customers across much of Montana.

4. Greater Northwest Rail Summit brings transportation officials together to bring back passenger rail to Montana (ktvq.com subscription) β Transportation leaders are pushing to restore the North Coast Hiawatha passenger rail line, which planners say would run through Billings along with other Montana cities by the 2030s. Officials met in Helena to coordinate funding, connectivity, and economic benefits, though federal policy delays are currently slowing detailed planning.
