Weather forecast:

  • Wednesday: A t-storm around in the p.m., temps: high: 86, low: 53. 🌶 Hot!
  • Thursday: Peeks of sunshine, with a high of 86 and low of 56 degrees.

📰 News we're reading

1. Gallatin Co. weighs opioid settlement funding to sustain Mobile Crisis (nbcmontana.com) — Gallatin County officials are weighing more than $777,000 in opioid settlement funds to keep Gallatin Mobile Crisis running while they wait for a long-term state funding model. With Bozeman and Gallatin County pooling settlement dollars, the program currently offers 10 a.m.–10 p.m. behavioral-health crisis response, and this stopgap money could stabilize services for about 18 months as leaders push for sustainable support.

2. Montana State University students move into campus for new school year (kbzk.com) — Thousands of Montana State University students are moving into campus residence halls this week, bringing a surge of energy and new residents into Bozeman. Incoming students cite outdoor recreation, social life, and strong programs like engineering and business, while MSU leaders emphasize how welcoming Bozeman is and how students will become part of the community for years to come.

3. 3 Montana Towns Ranked Best Mountain Places to Live (litefm955.com) — Bozeman just landed the top spot on Travel + Leisure's list of best U.S. mountain towns to live in, alongside Bigfork and Whitefish. The recognition comes with a caveat for locals: the cost of living is about 29% above the national average, keeping Bozeman among Montana's pricier, though most desirable, communities.

4. Bears' Fall Feeding Frenzies Can Get Them Into The Strangest Places — And Trouble (cowboystatedaily.com) — Two memorable black bear encounters in Bozeman—a hardware store break‑in on Main Street and a bear wandering Bozeman High's halls—are used to show how far hungry bears will go during fall feeding frenzies. The broader piece shares similar bear stories across the West and stresses how human food sources can create dangerous, sometimes deadly situations for both people and wildlife.
