Today's riddle: Why did the man leave his watch in the bank? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Help Me Ben: Montana Veteran calls for awareness following handicap parking dispute (fairfieldsuntimes.com) — A disabled veteran from Helena is speaking out after being wrongly challenged for using a handicap space at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds, despite having disabled veteran plates. His experience, backed by Montana law and local supporters, highlights how invisible disabilities and DV plates work in Helena and across the state, and urges residents to think twice before confronting others.
2. East Helena horse rescue gives neglected animals a second chance (ktvh.com) — A new horse rescue in East Helena is quietly building a lifeline for neglected horses and is looking for local help. Huttinger Ranch and Horse Rescue, started after its owner saved a horse from slaughter, now cares for several animals with the help of volunteers, a farrier, and a vet. The group hopes to expand and welcomes donations and extra hands from nearby residents.
3. Commission amendments proposed for August agenda item (montanaoutdoor.com) — Helena residents can attend or Zoom into Wednesday's Fish and Wildlife Commission meeting at the Montana Heritage Center, where three amendments on wolf and furbearer seasons will be debated. The proposals would adjust wolf quotas across regions, keep a higher bobcat quota in Region 1, and create a new wolf management unit with an extended season. Public comment will be taken during the meeting.
4. An Ri Ra Festival wraps up in Butte with successful weekend despite rain delays (ktvh.com) — Helena Irish dancers were among about 100 performers who traveled to Butte for the An Ri Ra Festival, which wrapped up this weekend despite repeated rain delays. Crowds stuck it out through weather shifts as bands and dancers adjusted schedules, and organizers say turnout matched previous years. Tiernan Irish Dancers are already expected back for next year's celebrations.
5. Two longtime Montana lawmakers sue to stay on ballot after attorney general's ruling (kpax.com) — A court hearing in Helena today will weigh whether two longtime Republican lawmakers can stay on the November ballot after Attorney General Austin Knudsen's new interpretation of Montana's term limits. The dispute pits the legislators against the AG and has already prompted GOP committees, including Lewis and Clark County's, to start choosing possible replacement candidates. The case could reshape how Montana enforces its term-limit rules.
