Here are the top three stories in Missoula today:

  1. Arts Missoula will be celebrating local artists and cultural leaders at their Arts and Culture Awards Program celebration on Thursday, Jun. 1 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel. Established in 1999, Arts Missoula expresses the importance of the arts in the Missoula community and honors those who dedicate their time and efforts to providing this art. The event will feature a beer/wine reception with light appetizers, music by a sponsee, and more. Tickets are on sale at artsmissoula.org. (NBC Montana)
  2. Over the weekend, Missoula Police were in a standoff with a 32-year-old woman that halted traffic between Mount Avenue and South Avenue. The incident occurred on the 2000 block of Mount Avenue when a woman barricaded herself inside a building for a while before eventually peacefully surrendering herself to the police. The suspect is being charged with attempted deliberate homicide and partner family assault. Traffic soon returned to normal following the incident. (NBC Montana)
  3. Firefighters throughout Montana came together in Butte for Hazmat Training at the Butte Civic Center, including firefighters from the Missoula Rural Fire District. Officers from several fire departments came together last week for a week full of training taught by the Emergency Response Training Institute from coursework to real-life scenarios. After completing the week-long course, 26 firefighters in the state of Montana are now certified Hazmat Technicians. (Montana Right Now)
