1. LPD investigating after Lincoln man held at knifepoint during robbery (klkntv.com) — Lincoln police are investigating an early-morning robbery where a 41-year-old Lincoln man was held at knifepoint outside the Kwik Shop on Holdrege Street and had his vehicle and $500 stolen. Officers later found the vehicle about five miles away, and investigators are asking anyone with information to call LPD or Crime Stoppers to help identify the suspects.
2. Power Restored After LES Outage Affects 2,800 Customers in South Lincoln (klin.com) — Power is back on for about 2,800 Lincoln Electric System customers in south Lincoln after a substation-level outage late Monday morning between Highway 77 and South 40th, Old Cheney and Rokeby. LES crews restored service by 11:23 a.m. and are still investigating the cause, while reminding drivers to treat dark traffic signals as four-way stops for safety.
3. New blood initiative by Lincoln Fire and Rescue could save your life after traumatic crash (1011now.com) — Lincoln Fire and Rescue is launching a new program Tuesday to carry packed red blood cells on an EMS unit, giving trauma patients in Lincoln a better chance of surviving severe blood loss before reaching the hospital. The effort, supported by Nebraska Community Blood Bank, required specialized coolers and monitoring, and depends on local donors to keep lifesaving blood available for emergencies.
4. Lincoln Homeless Coalition puts out 'urgent' call for socks before more rain comes (klkntv.com) — The Lincoln Homeless Coalition is urgently asking residents to donate socks of all sizes before Wednesday's Project Connect event at Pinnacle Bank Arena, where about 700 people are expected. With heavy rain in the forecast, organizers worry wet feet could lead to serious health issues for unhoused neighbors and are accepting drop-offs at Region V on Union Drive and at the arena.
5. University of Nebraska-Lincoln receives $5M grant to expand college access programs (wowt.com) — The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has secured a $5 million federal TRIO grant, strengthening college access support for low-income and first-generation students in Lincoln and four other Nebraska communities. Talent Search services based in Lincoln will more than double the number of middle and high school students served each year, offering academic help, career exploration, and college planning resources.
