Chronicle Hantavirus (ketv.com) — Omaha’s UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are again at the center of a global health response, monitoring cruise ship passengers exposed to Andes hantavirus in the National Quarantine Unit. Doctors explain how the virus spreads, why it differs from COVID-19, and how Omaha’s specialized biocontainment facilities and training are designed to keep both patients and the wider community safe.
2. Nebraska Humane Society: Cars + Dogs + Heat = Just don't do it (wowt.com) — With Omaha heating up, the Nebraska Humane Society is warning residents never to leave dogs in parked cars, even for a few minutes. They explain how quickly interior temperatures can become deadly, outline signs of heat distress, and offer immediate steps to cool an overheated pet and when to seek emergency veterinary care.

A revolutionary cancer treatment could transform autoimmune disease (arstechnica.com) — A Blair woman with multiple sclerosis became the first patient in a CAR T cell therapy trial at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, hoping to halt her worsening symptoms. Researchers here are testing whether this cancer-derived treatment can reset the immune system in autoimmune diseases, while carefully monitoring serious potential side effects and long-term risks.
5. Big Ten baseball tournament schedule set, Illinois earns #9 seed (wandtv.com) — Omaha will host the 2026 Big Ten baseball tournament, bringing all 12 conference teams and televised coverage from the Big Ten Network to the city. Illinois enters as the No. 9 seed and opens double-elimination play against No. 8 Iowa on Tuesday, May 19, with four teams advancing to an expanded single-elimination bracket.
