📰 News we're reading

1. 1 in custody after Douglas County incident at Westview High School; search for gun still underway (nbcneb.com) — A lockdown at Omaha Public Schools' Westview High in Bennington followed reports that a student had a gun in a backpack, prompting a large response from Douglas County deputies, State Patrol, and Bennington Police. One student was taken into custody and no weapon had been found as of the latest update, though students were dismissed and the football game was expected to proceed. Parents and students described the tense scene as officers and a helicopter surrounded the campus.

2. Westside Community Schools limits iPad use for elementary school students after some parents push back (3newsnow.com) — Westside Community Schools in the Omaha area has stopped allowing elementary students to use iPads during recess and free time after parents raised concerns about screen time. District leaders say kids already average under an hour of iPad use in a six-hour day but acknowledge technology remains central to instruction. Parent advocates now hope to push for statewide transparency and limits on classroom screen time.

3. North Omaha grief facilitator creates safe space for those struggling with loss (3newsnow.com) — A North Omaha grief facilitator is offering weekly support groups to help residents process losses ranging from deaths to job changes and broken relationships. 4.
