“Matt has demonstrated excellent ability over the last ten months. He will lead our team of skilled and dedicated attorneys and legal staff with experience, trusted relationships, and respect,” said Mayor Stothert. “I trust Matt’s opinion and counsel and I look forward to working together.”
The Law Department employs 35, including 24 attorneys in the civil and prosecution divisions. The department represents the City in legal matters, manages litigation, and investigates claims against the city.
“I am very honored to be chosen for this position,” said Kuhse. “I am excited to begin this new chapter of my career, and even more excited to continue working with the fine lawyers and staff in the Law Department. While I will miss the prosecutor’s office, I intend to still play a role.”
Eleven candidates applied for the City Attorney position; five completed the testing process and were referred to Mayor Stothert for interviews.
The City Attorney is a civil service position, hired by the Mayor. "There is nothing I can think of that will top this job," said Kuhse.
Kuhse’s salary is $184,329.
