"It's Not Always Racist....But Sometimes It Is"

"Be Present. Listen. Embrace Difference. Through Discomfort and Humor"

Amber Ruffin and Lacey Lamar will join us to discuss their best-selling book, ‘You’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey:  Crazy Stories About Racism.’

Emmy Nominated Amber Ruffin is an American comedian, television host, writer, actress, author, and playwright. She hosts her own late-night talk show titled The Amber Ruffin Show on NBC and Peacock. She has been a writer for Late Night with Seth Meyers since 2014. When she joined the show, she became the first black woman to write for a late-night network talk show in the U.S. In January 2021, she co-authored a book with her sister, Lacey Lamar, which was placed on the NY Times Best Seller List. Lacey Lamar has worked in the healthcare and human service field for more than twenty-five years, thirteen of those working with troubled youth in her community. Lacey lives in Nebraska and volunteers her time in the local community.

Amber Ruffin and Lacey Lamar will jumpstart the program with excerpts from their book followed by breakout sessions led by local HR committee members. Session discussions will encompass bias and microaggressions; internal inclusion versus external presence; and workforce insight and improvements.  Ruffin and Lamar will bring the program full circle with final thoughts and a book signing to conclude the day.
