Trial postponed for Waco man accused of punching man in York alley and stealing money from vulnerable adult (justmelaniew.com) — A Waco man's jury trial in York County District Court has been postponed as he faces assault and threat charges tied to an alleged downtown York alley attack. He's also accused of using a stolen bank card for thousands in fraudulent purchases across several cities, including York and Waco, following an investigation by the York County Sheriff's Office.
2. Defendant charged with DUI and resisting arrest changes plea due to agreement with prosecution (justmelaniew.com) — A Grand Island man has changed his plea in York County District Court after a February traffic stop on I-80 near York led to DUI and resisting arrest charges. Deputies say he became combative, allegedly assaulted them, and was found under the influence of drugs; multiple charges were consolidated into a single felony count, with sentencing set for Nov. 23.
3. York man accused of stabbing takes plea agreement (justmelaniew.com) — A 20-year-old York man has taken a plea agreement after being accused of stabbing another York resident during a late-night confrontation near West 17th Street between York Avenue and Platte Avenue. Prosecutors reduced the charges to attempted second-degree assault, and he pleaded no contest in York County District Court, with sentencing set for Nov. 23.
4. Eight Lopers selected as UNK homecoming royalty finalists (unk.edu) — A University of Nebraska at Kearney student from York, senior Shawn Rathjen, is one of four finalists for homecoming king this week. UNK will crown its homecoming royalty Thursday night after a campus lipsync competition, with the winners also highlighted in Saturday's downtown Kearney parade, giving York residents a local connection to the festivities.
