1. City of Henderson opens new Inspirada substation, dispatch center (fox5vegas.com) — West Henderson neighbors now have a fully staffed police substation and 911/311 dispatch center in Inspirada, aimed at cutting response times for about 126,000 west-side residents. The city is celebrating with an open house tonight at 2222 Via Inspirada, offering building tours, safety demos, and a chance for families to meet local officers and dispatchers.
2. Henderson homeowner calls overgrown rental yard a health hazard, says rats spreading to his property (fox5vegas.com) — A Henderson homeowner near Arroyo Grande and Warm Springs says an overgrown neighboring rental yard is drawing rats onto his property and putting his grandchildren at risk. After getting bounced between his HOA, the city, and the health department, he turned to local media; Henderson officials now say they have no rat complaints on record and advise residents to hire pest control.
3. 1 person rescued from stalled car after heavy rain hits Henderson (news3lv.com) — Heavy rain left a Henderson street flooded Monday, stalling a car in about two feet of water before firefighters rescued the driver without injuries near Paradise Hills Drive and Moonwalk Terrace. The storm left mud and debris behind, with nearby gauges showing measurable rainfall in Henderson and Boulder City even though the airport recorded none.
4. Nevada State University looks to the future with 460+ acres on campus to develop (news3lv.com) — Nevada State University is eyeing more than 450 acres around its Henderson campus for new housing, student spaces, and possible health-focused private development. Leaders say record enrollment is driving plans that could add a wellness center, food pantry, and better athletic facilities, while a new North Las Vegas satellite campus is slated to open next August.
5. Nevada Task Force 1 deploys to New Mexico ahead of Hurricane Polo flash flooding (news3lv.com) — Henderson Fire Department members are part of Nevada Task Force 1, now deployed to New Mexico to help with expected flash flooding from Hurricane Polo. The 45-person team, including several Southern Nevada agencies and volunteers, will operate water rescue boats for up to two weeks as the only federal urban search and rescue team assigned so far.
