📰 News we're reading

1. Las Vegas set to discuss the future of Clark County's 'islands' (8newsnow.com) — Las Vegas officials are weighing whether to change or end agreements that govern Clark County "islands" surrounded by city land, potentially affecting taxes, services, and future development in northwest neighborhoods. City councilmembers from Wards 4 and 6 will discuss creating clearer joint boundaries with the county while residents and rural preservation advocates watch closely for impacts on parks, sewers, and emergency response.

2. 2-year projections show Lake Mead giving up 40 feet while Lake Powell rises by the same (8newsnow.com) — Las Vegas residents face a projected 40-foot drop in Lake Mead over the next two years, even as Lake Powell is expected to rise by a similar amount. Federal plans could eventually cut Nevada's Colorado River allocation by more than 70%, though local conservation and recycling have sharply reduced Las Vegas' consumptive use. Officials say those efforts are key to weathering future shortages.

3. MedTech Field Service Technician - Part Time - Las Vegas, NV (iqvia.com) — A part-time MedTech Field Service Technician position is open in Las Vegas, supporting automated medication dispensing systems in hospitals and pharmacies around the valley. The on-call role averages 20–25 hours weekly starting in October, offers paid training and travel time, and requires strong troubleshooting skills, hospital credentialing, and up-to-date vaccinations but does not include medical benefits.

4. Defendant gets prison in bombing of iconic Las Vegas Italian restaurant (reviewjournal.com) — A man involved in the 2025 bombing outside Piero's Italian Cuisine near the Las Vegas Convention Center has been sentenced to two to six years in prison, with credit for time served. Prosecutors say he was recruited by others, while the restaurant's counsel emphasized the fear the blast caused staff and guests and acknowledged his struggles with addiction.

5. Henderson takes first step toward allowing to-go alcoholic drinks (fox5vegas.com) — Henderson is moving toward allowing sealed to-go alcoholic drinks from restaurants, following a similar change recently adopted in Las Vegas. City staff will now draft an ordinance shaped by Nevada's new state law and input from local restaurant and distillery owners, potentially expanding alcohol-to-go options for Las Vegas valley residents if approved.
