Today's riddle: Why do some birds fly south for the winter? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. EmployNV Career Hub (vegas4locals.com) — Job seekers in Las Vegas can visit the EmployNV Career Hub on Maryland Parkway for free help with local job leads, resumes, and walk-in hiring events. The center, near Boulevard Mall, is open weekdays, offers free parking, and is reachable by RTC Route 109, making it an accessible resource for residents looking to improve their employment prospects.
2. Volunteers clean up trash in the Arts District (fox5vegas.com) — Volunteers in Las Vegas' Arts District spent the day clearing trash from alleys and side streets off Main Street to keep the neighborhood as welcoming as its murals and galleries. SEIU's Climate Justice Caucus and local leaders plan to make these cleanups monthly, with a Thanksgiving trash pickup and food drive near the Barter Mall being organized to further boost neighborhood pride and safety.
3. Blue Diamond shut down near Fort Apache due to wrong-way driver crash (8newsnow.com) — A wrong-way driver caused a head-on collision at Blue Diamond Road and South Grand Canyon Drive in the southwest Las Vegas Valley, sending multiple people to the hospital with serious injuries. Las Vegas Metro Police say lanes at the intersection remain blocked while investigators work at the scene, and it's still unclear how many people were involved or how severe the injuries are.
4. Desert Breeze 'lake' created after tropical storm (8newsnow.com) — Flooding from Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel temporarily turned Desert Breeze Park's soccer fields into a large lake on Las Vegas' west side, drawing families out to play despite warning signs. County crews are now clearing mud, trash, and debris from the drainage basin and expect full cleanup in the coming days, after emergency alerts woke many residents early Sunday.
5. Post-tropical cyclone Rachel floods roads near the Strip (fox5vegas.com) — Overnight rain and wind from Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel flooded streets behind the Strip, briefly closing roads like Koval Lane and Winnick Avenue and littering flood channels with debris. Power lines were also knocked down near Lone Mountain and Camino Al Norte in North Las Vegas, though crews have since reopened roads, leaving only some dust and cleanup work behind.
