Here are the top stories in Las Vegas today:
- Thousands of hotel, casino and restaurant workers marched Friday on the Las Vegas Strip to highlight their call for employers to rehire more people who were furloughed last year because of COVID-19. Despite the reopening of casinos and hotels, Culinary Union officials said about one-third of its members — or about 21,000 workers — remain out of work some 19 months after the COVID-19 pandemic hit Nevada. Many idled employees have now exhausted public unemployment benefits, they said. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
- Las Vegas police said a man was fatally shot during a fight in the west valley early Saturday morning. Officers said they responded to a call and found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to University Medical Center where he died. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
- Jerry Tyler, president of mining firm Heart of Nature, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal there appears to be something like a river flowing beneath Cal-Nev-Ari, the remote community south of Las Vegas, and that it replenishes when water is pumped out. (Las Vegas Sun)
- Bryna Technologies, a company known for its firearm technology took the time to teach Las Vegas law enforcement about less-lethal weapons on Saturday. (News3LV)
- Local women are making a difference by hosting a workshop called "Empowering Our Girls," which connects 50 girls ages 10 to 18 with women leaders in our community and law enforcement. (News3LV)
