Agenda Items 6 – Recognition of the 50th Anniversary of the College of Southern Nevada (CSN): City Council will celebrate 50 years of education at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN). Founded in 1971 as Clark County Community College, it became the Community College of Southern Nevada in 1991, and in 2007 the institution was renamed the College of Southern Nevada.
Agenda Items 11 – Health Equity And Literacy: City Council will vote on the acceptance of a grant award in the amount of $1,670,000 from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the Health Equity And Literacy (HEAL) program as part of a new, two-year initiative to identify and implement best practices for improving health literacy to enhance COVID-19 vaccination and other mitigation practices among underserved populations. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) awarded grants to 73 local governments as part of the program. HEAL fosters organizational and individual health literacy through community based health education, health professional development and coordinated messaging. The city will work with partners to build organizational health literacy in primary care and community settings, particularly FQHCs. The proposed approach builds health literacy in FQHCs, and other publicly-funded community health centers by: engaging health clinic leadership so health literacy is integral to its mission, structure, and operations; integrating Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) into strategic and operational planning as well as quality improvement goals and measures; preparing healthcare staff to address health literacy issues and monitor progress; training for emergency preparedness crises, like the COVID-19 pandemic, and, building trust through effective health communications using the community health worker model. Current staff time will be used as an in-kind match of $307,000.

Agenda Items 18 – Vision Zero Action Plan: City Council will vote on a contract with Wood Rogers, Inc., for the development of the city’s Vision Zero Action Plan. Vision Zero is a strategy to eliminate traffic crash-related fatalities and severe injuries, and this action plan will develop a prioritized list of future improvements, timelines, and performance measures to accomplish the goal. This Vision Zero Action Plan will help the city compete for federal funding targeted toward traffic crash reductions. Wood Rodgers, Inc. is located in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Agenda Items 45 – Grant for ReInvent Schools Nevada: City Council will vote on the acceptance of a grant in the amount of $488,185 from Nevada Volunteers to the City of Las Vegas for the ReInvent Schools Las Vegas (RSLV) AmeriCorps program, whereby its members will provide early childhood education support, academic, social-emotional, and nutrition interventions, college and career mentorship and community resource support. The ReInvent Schools Las Vegas AmeriCorps Program will have 64 reduced fulltime, half-time, reduced half-time, and quarter-time AmeriCorps members providing early childhood education programming at the Strong Start Go Mobile Pre-K busses, academic, social-emotional, and nutrition interventions in 16 RSLV elementary schools designated as oneand two- star schools, college and career mentorship at 14 high schools through the Batteries Included program, and community resource support through the Community Navigator program.
Agenda Items 59 – Charleston Planning Area Site: City Council will vote on a request for a General Plan Amendment from C (Commercial), MXU (Mixed-Use), L (Low Density Residential) and LI/R (Light Industry/Research) to TOD-2 (Transit Oriented Development - Low) on 91.10 acres generally bounded by Rancho Drive to the east, Desert Inn Road to the south, Teddy Drive to the north, and Richfield Boulevard to the west.
