Here's a five-minute guide to everything going on around town today.
Happy Tuesday, Las Vegas! Let's get this day started. These are the most important things going on around Las Vegas today.
First, today's weather:
Plenty of sunshine, but cool. High: 70 Low: 52.
Here are the top stories in Las Vegas today:
- A Las Vegas woman who has helped thousands of people affected by the pandemic currently needs help herself. Julie Danner created the Las Vegas Hero Facebook page at the start of the pandemic. In the last 18 months, Danner and volunteers set up a community pantry, collected and disbursed food and household supplies, and provided holiday meals and gifts for every major holiday. Now, Danner has found herself in a position where she needs help after a surgery that left her partially paralyzed from the waist down. Doctors still have no idea why or how this could have happened. - Trucking companies are struggling to find workers. The owner of Las Vegas's Desert Eagle Trucking says he's offering competitive pay and thousands of dollars as a sign-on bonus to new drivers, but still, he hasn't gotten many applicants in the last few years. The American Trucking Association said the country needs to hire at least 100,000 drivers every year for the next decade to keep up with demand. (News3LV)
- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is reporting that 34 felony arrests were made during the Electric Daisy Carnival over the weekend. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
- Las Vegas police are investigating a deadly crash from Sunday night in the southwest part of town. (KTNV Las Vegas)
- Dozens turned out for the Las Vegas Jazz Society's 43rd annual Community Jazz Picnic in the east valley. About 100 set up folding chairs and blankets on the grass to watch talented musicians, many who perform on the Las Vegas Strip, on an outdoor stage. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
