Here are the top stories in Las Vegas today:
- The pandemic has dominated and defined the first half of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman's final term in office. More than 5,700 Southern Nevadans have died from COVID-19 and it decimated the tourist-driven economy. Goodman, after serving three terms, is ineligible to run for re-election in 2024. (KNPR)
- The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, in partnership with the city of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 76, will co-host the first Southern Nevada Veterans Creative Arts Competition next summer. It is open to veterans treated in the Department of Veterans Affairs health care system. Veterans may exhibit their artwork and original writings or perform musical, dance, or dramatic selections in a live stage show performance. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
- The award-winning band, The Bronx Wanderers, are looking to celebrate their new Las Vegas residency by offering complimentary show tickets to first responders. (News3LV)
- Henderson symphony orchestra will conduct a free, live-to-picture concert of Disney and Pixar's "Coco" next Friday, Oct. 15. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
- Dozens of kids around the Las Vegas valley walked to school as a part of International Walk To School Day. (KTNV Las Vegas)
