🌱 Grieving Mom Creates Nonprofit + The Vegas Loop Faces Council

Here's a five-minute guide to everything worth knowing today in town.

Happy Wednesday, people of Las Vegas! These are the most important things happening today in town.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 73 Low: 53.

Here are the top stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. More Las Vegans are dying of fentanyl overdoses than ever before. Kristina Perkins lost her 17-year-old son, Gio, to the silent killer, after the teen unknowingly consumed a pain pill laced with fentanyl. Still grieving the unimaginable loss, Perkins started Gio's World, a non-profit aimed at raising awareness. She wants to prevent the same tragedy from happening to other local families. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
  2. Clark County commissioners are expected to consider a franchise agreement with the Boring Company to create an underground transportation network known as the Vegas Loop. The Vegas Loop would have dozens of stops between Fremont Street and Allegiant Stadium, connecting downtown Las Vegas to the Strip corridor. The Boring Company currently operates a similar underground system at the Las Vegas Convention Center. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
  3. Officials say enough money has been raised through donations to start work to rename Las Vegas' main airport after former U.S. Sen. Harry Reid. The Clark County Commission earlier this year approved the renaming of McCarran International Airport to Harry Reid International Airport but with the stipulation that no taxpayer money be used. (KDWN)
  4. Police have arrested two men in connection with a pipe bomb explosion in a dumpster at a Las Vegas apartment complex on Oct. 13. (KTNV Las Vegas)
  5. Neighbors in a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood woke up to the sound of gunshots early Saturday morning. More than 20 stray bullets hit a number of homes and cars in the area.(KTNV Las Vegas)
