Henderson Couple Chooses a Career Together Using Their Combined Skills
They Bring Floor Coverings International to Henderson and Southeast Las Vegas Valley

(Las Vegas, Nevada)-Life can grow a little mundane from time to time, so why not shake things up a little? At least that was the mindset of the husband-and-wife team of Jeremy and Janie Sandberg, Henderson, Nev. Parents of three children, Jeremy, 38, and Janie, 35, had talked about starting a business for much of their married life, but just couldn’t figure out the how, what, and when. With the kids all in school, they decided the time was now, so the couple recently became franchise owners with Floor Coverings International, the brand that’s consistently ranked No. 1 in the mobile flooring category, visiting customers’ homes in a Mobile Flooring Showroom stocked with thousands of flooring samples from top manufacturers. Having launched operations in early April, Floor Coverings International of Southeast Las Vegas serves customers throughout Henderson and the southeast Las Vegas Valley.
“We chose, in the prime of our working lives, to turn everything upside down and pour our energy into a small business,” said Janie, whose pronunciation of “chose” was emphatic. “We want to help other people, both individuals and families, create homes they love, with flooring they’re excited about.”
Jeremy is a software engineer with almost 20 years’ experience creating software for business applications, while Janie is a musician and teacher who spent the last decade as a stay-at-home mom. Janie said her and Jeremy’s respective skills mesh perfectly for their new business. “Jeremy is analytical, process-driven and exceptionally good at finding creative approaches to solving problems,” Janie said. “I have focused my energy over the last decade on crafting a life and home where our family thrives, which is a skill that directly applies to helping other families and individuals find flooring to fit their unique needs.”

Business ownership runs in the family. Jeremy’s parents owned a soil testing lab in southern Alberta, Canada, and summer vacations and weekends were spent gathering and processing soil samples from local farmers. “It was a grueling and unglamorous job,” Jeremy said. “Because of the hard labor and long hours, I saw firsthand the deep satisfaction my parents felt from their business and that spark of entrepreneurship started to grow.”
Floor Coverings International is a business built on relationships to provide its customers with the very best in-home flooring experience in North America. Its proven business model has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs thrive in a business that is simple-to-run and easy to scale. Floor Coverings International further separates itself from the competition through its customer experience, made up of several simple and integrated steps that exceed customers’ expectations.

“As we researched a variety of different franchises, Floor Coverings International stood out,” Janie said. “We recognized that this was a product and business model worth getting excited about. The strong collaborative culture and exceptional training offered by corporate was just icing on the cake. We really feel that as we help people transform their floors, we’ll be living one of our family’s core values: we love others and we show it!”
According to the latest figures, there are more than 5.5 million family businesses in the United States and family-owned businesses contribute to 57 percent of the GDP and employ 63 percent of the workforce. Janie said prospective business owners shouldn’t procrastinate, but just set a few guidelines, especially if multiple family members are involved. “Find something you believe in with a built-in system of support and structure that you can trust and go for it!” Janie said. “There is no ‘perfect time,’ only today. Keep the big picture in mind – what are you hoping to build and what legacy do you want to leave behind? And honestly, the most challenging thing has been learning to wear so many hats at once. That’s where delegating and delineating comes in handy!”
With the home improvement industry booming, the flooring market is also keeping pace. The global flooring market is expected to grow at an annual rate of more than six percent through 2028, reaching overall sales of $621 billion, according to Grand View Research.
“People are definitely choosing hard surfaces more than ever before and manufacturers are listening,” Jeremy said. “There is a huge array of different hard-surface flooring options, all designed to meet distinct challenges around durability, water-resistance, and comfort. It’s an exciting time to be in the flooring business, with new innovations just about every day.”
