Las Vegas 51s Will Play In New $150 Million Summerlin Stadium
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority approved a 20-year, $80 million naming rights deal to help pay for the stadium.
The Las Vegas 51s may be losing their Major League affiliation now that the New York Mets have bought the Syracuse Chiefs, by the team is getting a brand new stadium. The Howard Hughes Corporation, which bought the team earlier this year, announced Tuesday they will build a new $150 million stadium in downtown Summerlin.
The stadium, which will be called Las Vegas Ballpark. is going to be built just south of City National Arena where the Golden Knights practice.
The Las Vegas Convention And Visitors Authority's Board of Directors approved spending $80 million on a 20-year deal to give them the naming rights. The 51st found out on Monday that their Major League affiliate – The New York Mets – will be ending their player development deal with the team after next season, It's not known who the team will partner with after that,
The Howard Hughes Corporation says that the new stadium will seat 10,000 and include 22 suites, club seats, berm searing, party zones, picnic tables, and a pool.

"The ballpark will further distinguish Downtown Summerlin as a vibrant destination and give valley residents a first-class amenity and the opportunity to enjoy professional baseball in an inviting and family-friendly environment.”
The new stadium is welcome news to the team. Their current stadium – Cashman Field – is one of the most maligned stadiums in minor league baseball.
"With a new home in Downtown Summerlin, the future of professional baseball in Southern Nevada looks exceptionally bright," said Don Logan, the team's president and chief operating officer. "We are confident this location, which is easily accessed from all regions of the valley via the 215 Beltway, will help grow our fan base and introduce new generations to America’s favorite past time.
"We can’t wait to put down roots in Downtown Summerlin, a destination that already has a reputation for best in fun, family-oriented entertainment."
