Las Vegas Man Pleads Guilty To Tax Fraud

He faces prison time and a large fine.

OAKLAND, CA — A Las Vegas man has pleaded guilty in federal court to filing false tax claims, Acting United States Attorney Alex G. Tse announced Thursday.

Eric Oase, 52, pleaded guilty Thursday to filing false claims with the United States.

Prosecutors said Oase, the owner and operator of E & K Tax Solutions in San Leandro, admitted to knowingly preparing and filing numerous false federal income tax returns for others.

In 2012, he field false income tax returns for his customers for the years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 that included reporting of false wages and false education expenses, prosecutors said.

The false reports generated tax refunds for his customers.

In total, Oase directed his customers to claim fraudulent tax refunds in the amount of $477,333.

In January of 2017, he was charged with six counts of filing false claims, and on Thursday, he pleaded guilty to two of those counts, prosecutors said.

He is scheduled for sentencing on May 24 and faces five years in prison for each count and a fine of $250,000.
