Las Vegas Police Say Man Killed Himself After Chase

The incident started when Vegas police were notified by colleagues in Henderson of a suicidal man who was armed.

A suicidal man from Henderson shot and killed himself after leading police on a chase. Las Vegas police say that the man shot himself in the head at roughly the same time an officer shot him in the shoulder.

It started around 10:30 Thursday morning.

Vegas officers got a call from their colleagues in Henderson saying that a woman had called saying her husband was armed and suicidal. Henderson officers had tracked the man's phone to the parking lot of an auto parts store on the 6000 block of West Charleston Boulevard.

When officers approached, he sped off, crashing into another car before continuing.

A police helicopter kept track of the man, directing officers on the ground to him.

They finally caught up with him at a shopping center on the 200 blocks of Jones Boulevard.

The man was holding a gun and refused orders to put it down.

Police say he then raised it to his head and fired.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was the 18th officer-involved shooting of the year.
