Las Vegas Raiders Set To Name General Contractor: Report

Report says they are set to pick Minneapolis-based Mortenson Construction.

The soon-to-be Las Vegas Raiders will have their new stadium by Minneapolis-based Mortenson Construction. The company, which calls itself the "#1 sports builder in the U.S." on their website.

Mortenson, which has built more than 170 sports and entertainment projects including the recently-opened SunTrust Park home of the Atlanta Braves, will work with McCarthy Building Companies of Henderson.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal, which first reported the story, quote Raiders President Marc Badain saying the contract is close but not yet done.

The Raiders have also hired Kansas City-based Manica Architecture to design the $1.9 billion, 65,000-seat stadium.

Earlier this week, The las vegas Stadium Authority released a draft timeline that shows the team moving into their new home in June 2020 - three months ahead of opening day.

In picking Mortenson - which completed several big projects ahead of schedule - they have made the right choice.

The team and the authority still have to finish the lease, which they hope to have done by the time the NFL owners meet at the end of the month. Not completing the lease on time, could delay opening by a year.
