It was a big day for the self-driving shuttle that made its debut in Las Vegas Wednesday. Only not the way anyone had planned. After its first few runs along .6 mile loop downtown, it was involved in a crash.
"The shuttle did what it was supposed to do, in that it’s sensors registered the truck and the shuttle stopped to avoid the accident," the city said in a statement. "Unfortunately the delivery truck did not stop and grazed the front fender of the shuttle."
No one was injured in the crash. The driver of the deliver truck was cited by police.

The city pointed out that if the truck had had the same sensors as the shuttle, the crash would have never happened.
The shuttle had made its debut just a while before in a ceremony at Container Park. The self-driving shuttle, operated by Keolis in partnership with the AAA Northern California & Utah, was hit by a delivery truck.

The shuttle was taken out of service for the rest of the day but will continue testing. It's expected to run as part of a one-year pilot program.
