"We appreciate, now more than ever, the league’s confidence in Las Vegas and believe the team will be a tremendous addition to the city.”

The company said Detroit Pistons legend Bill Laimbeer will be the team's head coach and president of basketball operations.

The Stars are the third professional sports team to announce a move to Vegas in the past year.

The Golden Knights of the NHL just started their first professional season, and the Oakland Raiders, who hope to start playing in Vegas in 2020, announced their move earlier this year.

The Board of Governors of the WNBA and NBA unanimously approved the Stars' move.
