Mayweather Made At Least 3 Times More Than McGregor For 'Money Fight'
Several observers had McGregor winning the first three rounds before Mayweather found his footing.
In round four, the boxing champion finally started demonstrating how he got to 49-0 for his career, landing more punches a and making McGregor work harder.
By the sixth round, McGregor was clearly losing steam, leaning on Mayweather, throwing fewer punches and connected even less.
In the ninth round, Mayweather almost knocked down McGregor, clearly unbalancing the veteran MMA fighter with a strong right. McGregor appeared to be in trouble.
By the 10th, it was over. Mayweather was showing with every punch just how much of a mismatch the fight really was. Midway through the round, the referee stopped it, giving Mayweather a technical knockout of his opponent and the 50th victory against zero losses for his career.
"This is my last fight, ladies and gentlemen," Mayweather said after the fight. While much of the buildup to the fight had been filled with animosity, Mayweather was a gracious victor, announcing that McGregor had been better than he had expected.
Mayweather's 50th victory makes him the winningest undefeated boxer in history, surpassing Rocky Marciano, who had retired with a 49-0 record.
While Mayweather can now retire an undefeated champion, clearly a contender for the best boxer of his generation and maybe one of the all-time greats, McGregor also left the ring a winner.
The MMA champion said that he would return to the sport where he made his name and it's safe to assume he will be getting bigger paydays and his fights will be bigger than they had been.
The fight was delayed when the pay per view production had technical difficulties.
"Due to high demand, we have reports of scattered outages from various cable and satellite provides and the online offering" Showtime, which showed the fight, said in a statement Saturday night. "We will delay the start of the main event slightly to allow for systems to get on track.
"We do not expect a lengthy delay."
It'a expected that when the final numbers come out, it may very well be that this was the pay-per-view fight with the most buys ever, breaking the current record - not surprisingly held by Mayweather.
Nearly 4.5 million people paid to watch him defeat Manny Pacquiao in May 2015.
