Merryhill School Students Donate 550 Food Items to Local Veterans

Students honored veterans by collecting nonperishable food items for residents at Veterans Village

Students at Merryhill Preschool and Merryhill Elementary School on Durango Drive in Las Vegas recently donated 550 nonperishable food items to Veterans Village, a transitional and permanent housing residence for U.S. veterans. For two weeks, students collected items, including canned soups and vegetables, bottles of water, cereal and more to benefit veterans in need. At the close of the drive, students helped pack and prepare the donations and loaded them into vehicles for delivery. On Veterans Day, students also honored veterans by inviting active duty family members and those who had previously served in the military to join the school in raising the flag and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Through this initiative, students learned the importance of giving back to those who have served the country.

Veterans Village is a transitional and permanent housing residence for U.S. veterans and is operated by nonprofit organization SHARE. It offers holistic and comprehensive housing with 24/7/365 crisis intervention intensive support services, and provides supplies and services to residents, including housing, medical and mental health services, employment training, referrals and placements, food pantry/nutrition programs and transportation to the VA Hospital and primary care clinics.
