Here are the top stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. A Las Vegas nonprofit organization has created a "Mobile Pantry" to help feed refugees in the valley. Lighthouse Charities is a nonprofit organization helping refugees become self-reliant since many refugees struggle when they first arrive in the United states. The organization's mobile pantry works with the food bank to help deliver meals to families' doorsteps. There are 150 families from Afghanistan and more than 2,000 from around the world expected to arrive in Vegas in the next couple of months. (KTNV Las Vegas)
  2. The Culinary Union, an organization that has improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of Nevada hospitality workers and their families with union wages and benefits, celebrates 86 years of service in 2021. The Culinary Union has won a middle-class standard of living for over 800,000 hospitality workers in 86 years through militant rank-and-file organizing and mass actions. Worker membership has risen from 18,000 in 1987 to 60,000 members today. The Culinary Union is Nevada's largest Latinx/Black/AAPI/immigrant organization with members who are originally from 178 countries and speak over 40 different languages. The Culinary Union also has a diverse membership which is 55% women and 45% immigrants. (culinaryunion226.org)
  3. Nevada Health Response says Clark County will continue to have a mask mandate in place for now. The county is listed as having substantial transmission of COVID-19 and will continue to use masks in indoor settings. (KTNV Las Vegas)
  4. A Las Vegas man was convicted of second-degree murder and driving under the influence for starting a Southern California chain-reaction crash that killed a woman, fractured her infant's skull and injured four other people. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
  5. Las Vegas police are searching for a man they said robbed a store at gunpoint on Tuesday.(FOX5 Las Vegas)
