Naked, Suicidal Man Shot By Las Vegas Police In Church Parking Lot: Cops

An officer fired a single shot at the man when a police dog was unsuccessfully used to arrest him, police said.

LAS VEGAS, NV — Police officers shot a naked, suicidal man in a Las Vegas church parking lot after he ran toward a gun, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 11 a.m. Saturday in southeast Las Vegas, police said. The suspect reportedly threatened to kill himself and was found sitting with no clothes on and armed with a handgun.

He initially appeared to comply with commands to put the gun down and walk away, but turned around and sprinted toward the gun, police said. This is the 16th police shooting in Las Vegas so far this year, a sharp increase from the 10 total police shootings in 2016. The Saturday shooting also marks the eighth instance where officers were shot or shot at in the past seven weeks.
