Here are the top stories today in Las Vegas:
- As Las Vegas continues to grow, maintaining air quality will need to be a priority to ensure that residents with respiratory issues are able to safely call the valley home. Factors like geography, topography and climate are stacked against pristine air quality in Las Vegas, including wildfire smoke that often drifts in from other states. Dr. Lloyd Del Mundo, a pulmonologist at Valley Hospital Medical Center, says he has seen an increase in patients with breathing issues as our city has grown. (KTNV Las Vegas)
- According to the latest numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 4.3 million Americans quit their jobs in August, contributing to "The Great Resignation." The are countless help-wanted signs at businesses across Southern Nevada but, ironically, the abundance of job openings doesn't provide a sense of urgency for those content to sit on the sidelines. Economist Mike PeQueen said "We know that people feel very comfortable, that they can get a job at anywhere if they want one right now. So, if anyone is at all dissatisfied with their job, the temptation to quit that job is very high." (News3LV)
- The Asian Community Development Council has partnered with Immunize Nevada to continually offer vaccines to the community, adding newly-approved doses as soon as health officials authorize them. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
