Here are the top stories in Las Vegas today:
- A Las Vegas woman is accused of continuing to collect federal retirement benefits from her late husband after dismembering his body more than six years ago, according to a federal criminal complaint. Nancy Shedleski faces a charge of theft of government money in U.S. District Court. Shedleski appeared before a federal magistrate via video conference on Friday, Oct. 22, and was released on her own recognizance, according to court records. Her next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5.
- Four men were arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of distributing cocaine, part of a wider international investigation that resulted in 150 arrests. The U.S. Justice Department announced the arrests on Tuesday, saying the investigation led to the seizure of more than $31.6 million in cash and virtual currency. The four suspects were allegedly using the dark web to distribute cocaine. (News3LV)
- While most of the Boring Company's Vegas Loop is planned for tunnel lines running either under county-owned property or casinos who may benefit from them, they may also run under private residential and commercial property. (FOX5 Las Vegas)
- A Las Vegas family packed their bags and were forced to leave their home with only 24 hours notice after they say they didn't do enough when applying for financial aid. (KTNV Las Vegas)
- Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, Nevada's only outpatient children's cancer clinic, announced it will hold a Halloween Blood Drive on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at its campus in Summerlin, at One Breakthrough Way near Town Center Drive and the 215 Beltway.(FOX5 Las Vegas)
